What's up with Adam Sandler wearing a University of Kentucky T-shirt in Funny People?
Central Kentuckians watching advertisements for the movie, which opens Friday, might have done a double take when Sandler's character is prominently showing some apparent Wildcat pride during a key scene.
But it appears that Sandler's character, a terminally ill stand-up comedian named George Simmons, isn't a true blue Wildcats fan.
The shirt was simply a "character-related choice," said Nancy Steiner, a costume designer for the film.
Because Sandler's character, who wears several sports-themed T-shirts in the movie, is an A-list celebrity, he gets a lot of swag, or free stuff, and that was just one of the many T-shirts he received, Steiner said.
Sandler's character wears the off-white UK shirt during a scene in which he visits his doctor.
Funny People was written and directed by Judd Apatow and also stars Seth Rogen.
