While he may not know how to use The Force, the real hero in Dasha Meriweather’s life is her father.
“My Dad is the BIGGEST #StarWarsFan EVER!!!!” Meriweather wrote on GoFundMe. “He always wears his Star Wars stuff has all kinds shirts, cups, hats, coats and even light sabers. He has been determined to make us fans too. He makes us have #StarWars movie marathons at least once a month.”
Never miss a local story.
Meriweather’s father Duaine, 41, is a lead supervisor for a packaging company in Louisville. Neither he or his wife, Renada, knew she had started the campaign on GoFundMe — a 6-year-old crowdfunding platform where people can raise money for everything from medical needs to vacations.
“I’m proud of my daughter that she has a father that works really hard; he works six days a week,” Renada Meriweather said. “She’s seen a good example of what a man is supposed to be.”
Although Dasha’s campaign has only raised $50, it did inspire an anonymous fan to gift two light sabers to her dad. Dasha embodies the holiday spirit, said GoFundMe regional spokesman Bartlett Jackson.
“We wish Dasha all the best and hope she can take her dad to see the new movie,” Jackson said.
