The start time for Saturday's Kentucky District round of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions has been rolled back three hours to to 10 a.m.
Auditions chair Dr. Clifton Smith said the move, from 1 p.m., was necessary to accommodate 25 competitors. The auditions, which have been held at the University of Kentucky's Memorial Hall since 2000, usually attract 14 to 16 competitors, Smith said.
The three winners from the competition will advance to the Tri-State Regional Round of the auditions Jan. 16 at Butler University in Indianapolis, and the winner there advances to the National Semi-Finals in New York. The winners hope to be invited to join the Met's Young Artist program.
Saturday's auditions will be 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. until their conclusion at Memorial Hall on the UK campus. Admission is free.
