This edition of Weekender is the last I will oversee. After 91/2 years editing this Lexington institution — and nearly 17 years at the Herald-Leader — I am leaving to take an exciting new position outside journalism.
This job has mostly been a joy. After all, a big part of it has been helping people have fun. Pretty sweet gig, huh?
Still, I'm ready for a new challenge in my career.
The newspaper industry has been in tremendous upheaval these past few years. But during that time, the Herald-Leader has for the most part remained steadfast in its coverage of arts and entertainment. That's not something that can be said of all newspapers.
Under my watch, we launched LexGo.com and expanded coverage of some areas of the arts. When the rest of the paper was shrinking, Weekender stayed pretty much the size it has always been. That's because leaders here know arts and entertainment are vital to the life and culture of our beautiful little corner of the world.
I hope you continue to support Weekender and the Herald-Leader. They need you. Even though I won't be working here anymore, I know I will.
