Go back about 500 years at church's Feast of the Epiphany

- swthompson@herald-leader.com

Midway Christian Church is celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany with a menu reminiscent of the 16th century.

Chef/owner Ouita Michel and her staff at Holly Hill Inn in Midway will prepare the menu. Michel said the feast will begin with the traditional parade of the boar's head. The festive buffet will feature the roast hog stuffed with sausages; roasted onions with balsamic vinegar and honey; honey-roasted chicken; saffron rice pilaf; carrot pudding with currants and dates; sweet-and-sour cabbage and lentils; salad of lettuces, fennel, mint, parsley, flowers and egg; king cake; poached pears; and candied pine nuts.

Appetizers include ancient Turkish flatbread, cheese and walnut dip, spiced toasted almonds, spelt bread and olives.

The feast will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Midway College Dining Hall. Entertainment will be provided by Muzik, a medieval music group that plays authentic replicas of ancient instruments.

The cost is $25. Children through middle school age are free. Call Midway Christian Church at (859) 846-4102 or Holly Hill Inn, (859) 846-4732.

Big helpings at Margaritas

The building at 128 East New Circle Road has housed several Mexican eateries, and although most have served good food, they didn't stay in business for very long.

The latest is Margaritas. It's the place to go when you're hungry, because the portions are large. The menu features the regular items: quesadillas, burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas and fajitas. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Call (859) 252-9658.

New hours at Doodles

Doodles now has winter hours. The restaurant, at 262 North Limestone, is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Doodles is available for private functions. Call (859) 317-8507.

New owners, same menu

Mulligan's Gardenside Café, 1804 Alexandria Drive, has new owners. P.J. and Lyda Dilger have sold the restaurant to Larry and Leeann Cornett.

“The great staff and menu will stay the same,” Lyda Dilger said.

Call (859) 277-0071.
