Andrew Dini's two touchdown passes in the first half were all Clark County needed to upset No. 12 Henry Clay and end a lengthy losing streak to the Blue Devils.
Dini threw scoring passes to Corey Rogers and Jerrick Curry to send the visiting Cardinals out to an early lead, and the Clark County defense held the Devils in check in the second half for a 12-6 win.
The Cardinals' skid against Henry Clay dated back six games over 12 years. The win also marked the first back-to-back victories this season for Clark, which had been rotating wins and losses since dropping their first game of the season.
After their first two drives ended with punts, the Cardinals scored first on a 10-yard pass from Dini to Rogers to take a 6-0 lead with 1:29 left in the first quarter. Dini found Curry on a 44-yard touchdown pass two possessions later to go up 12-0.
Henry Clay cut the lead in half on Shannon Coofer's 39-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter, but that's as close as the Devils would get. Three of their first possessions ended with turnovers, and Henry Clay had five for the game. Clark County punted nine times but never turned the ball over.
Branden Johnson led the Devils with six rushes for 105 yards.
Lafayette 31, Paul Dunbar 7: Eric Shaw Jr. ran for three touchdowns — including an 80-yard romp — and the Generals defeated Paul Dunbar for the fifth time in their last seven meetings.
Shaw headlined a rushing attack that gained 360 yards and scored four times. Shaw ran 12 times for 147 yards. His two touchdown runs in a 1:23 span in the third and fourth quarters turned a seven-point game into a three-touchdown blowout with 11 minutes to play. Marlon Johnson added 96 yards on five rushes and was followed by Bubba Johnson (four carries for 79 yards) and Brett Durbin (two carries for 32 yards).
Trent Martin was 13-for-23 passing for 137 yards and scored the Bulldogs only touchdown on a 9-yard run in the second quarter. John Rose led Dunbar on the ground with 24 carries for 110 yards.
Tates Creek 35, Madison Central 21: Jontez Jones scored two touchdowns to help the host Commodores jump out to a 28-7 lead and drop the Indians to 0-6 on the season.
Jones ran 12 times for 121 yards to back up Dee Christopher's 10-for-13 performance at quarterback. Christopher tallied 121 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
The Commodores outgained Central 330-321 and didn't commit a turnover in the bad weather conditions.
Madison Central's John Moncrief completed 12 of 26 passes for 116 yards and ran for two touchdowns.
Anderson County 42, Bullitt Central 7: Jacob Russell ran for two touchdowns and threw for another to lead the Bearcats to a road win in a battle of undefeated Class 5A teams.
Russell completed nine of 15 passes for 205 yards. Grant Cox led three Anderson receivers with four catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. Ben Walker and Dustin Combs combined for 164 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for the Bearcats. Combs also returned a blocked punt 22 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to account for the only score of the second half.
Mason County 34, Russell 21: Sophomore running back Josh Harris ran 18 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns to help the host Royals stay undefeated and hand the Red Devils their first district loss. Harris scored first on an 84-yard touchdown run and Mason County jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Russell closed the gap to 28-21 before Jones scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Bourbon County 24, Franklin County 22: Colonels senior Taylor Barnes carried the ball 41 times for 273 yards and three touchdowns to lead host Bourbon County past the Flyers.
