Hayden sets state record in another LCA victory

Lexington Christian's Domonique Hayden had one of the state's biggest records wrapped up by halftime.

Hayden's Eagles had accomplished something just as big by the end of the game.

Hayden ran for four touchdowns to break Kelvin Turner's state career record for touchdowns and LCA defeated visiting Raceland 40-0 to clinch home-field advantage throughout the Class A playoffs.

Hayden had first-half rushing touchdowns of 1, 18, 1 and 1 yards to give him 117 scores for his career, one more than Danville's Turner, who set the record five years ago.

Hayden finished the night with 221 yards on 29 attempts.

Lexington Christian quarterback Lucas Witt was 7-for-8 passing for 117 yards and a touchdown to move a little closer to his own milestone. Witt is four touchdown passes away from 100 for his career.

It was another easy game for the Eagles.

LCA led 34-0 by halftime, and the defense held Raceland scoreless in the second half to earn its third consecutive shutout. The Eagles haven't given up a point since falling 27-26 to Class 4A Lexington Catholic on Sept. 25, their only loss of the season.

No. 13 Scott County 42, Paul Dunbar 7: The visiting Cardinals got plenty of yards on the ground and had all the points they needed midway through the first quarter in a rout of the Bulldogs.

Six different players scored touchdowns for Scott County, which led 42-0 by halftime.

Steven Travis, Marcus Hill, Josh Walls, Tevin Buffin and Danny Arnold had one rushing touchdown each for an offense that tallied 296 of its 341 yards on the ground.

Walls led the Cardinals rushing attack with 109 yards on just five carries. Brooks Barber (seven carries, 60 yards) and Sam Jones (three carries, 43 yards) also contributed on the ground without scoring.

Aaron Mudrak scored Scott County's other touchdown on a 35-yard fumble recovery in the second quarter.

Brad Harp scored Dunbar's only touchdown on a 9-yard run with 9:02 left in the fourth quarter. Harp had 97 yards on eight rushing attempts.

The Bulldogs struggled with turnovers, committing four without forcing a Scott County miscue.

No. 18 Henry Clay 21, Madison Central 7: The Blue Devils scored one touchdown in each of the first three quarters before losing their shutout in the fourth in a win over the host Indians.

Bo Brooks ran 16 times for 119 yards to lead the Devils on offense. Jerry Williams (18 rushes, 63 yards), Vinny Miller and Blake Green scored the touchdowns for Henry Clay.

Williams was also 5-for-9 for 109 yards through the air.

Shane King had 71 total yards of offense and the fourth-quarter touchdown for Madison Central, which is still looking for its first win of the season after playing four teams in Dave Cantrall's Top 25.

No. 22 Lexington Catholic 62, East Jessamine 0: Nic Ward had a perfect night behind center, Greg Raglin scored three touchdowns and the Knights ran away to a home shutout over East Jessamine.

Ward was 7-for-7 passing for 225 yards and two early touchdowns to help Lexington Catholic get going from the beginning. He threw both of his TD passes in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Knights scored touchdowns on a 7-yard run by Raglin, a 36-yard punt return by Billy J. Brown, a 30-yard fumble recovery by Andrew Gathy, and Patrick Hager's 10-yard return of a blocked punt.

Lexington Catholic led 48-0 by halftime. The Knights scored touchdowns on each of their first four possessions before the three return TDs to end the half. They also found the end zone on the first two possessions of the second half before punting late in the fourth quarter.

No. 4 Boyle County 47, West Jessamine 0: Senior running back Rees MacShara ran for four touchdowns and the host Rebels had little trouble handing the Colts their first loss of the season.

MacShara rushed 20 times for 223 yards and the four scores, all of which came in the first three quarters.

The Boyle County defense held an opponent to single-digit points for the sixth time in eight games — all victories — this season.

Anderson County 29, South Oldham 19: Jacob Russell came through with two touchdowns in the second half to erase a four-point deficit and keep the host Bearcats undefeated on the season.

After falling behind 19-14 on Chris Wallace's second touchdown run of the game, Russell found Grant Cox on a 46-yard touchdown pass before running it in from 1 yard out on the next possession.

Dustin Combs had two touchdown runs in the first half for Anderson County (8-0).

Mason County 26, West Carter 12: Sophomore running back Josh Harris ran 15 times for 168 yards and a big touchdown to keep the visiting Royals (8-0) undefeated.

Harris' only trip to the end zone came on a 73-yard run in the third quarter just moments after West Carter had cut Mason County's lead to one point.

Jordan Gilbert pulled in his second touchdown reception of the game to give the Royals some insurance in the fourth quarter.

Breathitt County 63, Powell County 26: Senior running back Channing Fugate scored five touchdowns to lead the host Bobcats (4-5) to their third straight victory after a disappointing start to the season.

Fugate, a University of Tennessee commitment and pre-season favorite for Mr. Football honors, ran 12 times for 141 yards and four scores. He also caught two passes for 53 yards and a touchdown. His scores accounted for the first five touchdowns of the game for Breathitt County, which led 42-6 at halftime.
