University of Kentucky cornerback Trevard Lindley has been named a second-team All-American, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Thursday.

Lindley, a junior from Hiram, Ga., has four interceptions and 11 pass breakups this season. He leads the Southeastern Conference and ranks 14th nationally in total passes defended per game. He was a consensus first-team All-SEC pick, and he was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back.

UK took a big step in addressing one of its primary recruiting needs Thursday when assistant coach Chuck Smith secured a commitment from Dakotah Tyler, a 5-foot-11, 205-pound running back from Indianapolis Pike High School.

Tyler, listed as a two-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com, originally committed to Cincinnati. He received offers from Purdue, Indiana and several Mid-American Conference schools.

The Wildcats return only three scholarship tailbacks next season, with junior-to-be Derrick Locke coming off a major knee injury. Tyler is UK's only current running back commitment. Jerrell Greene, who played at Paul Dunbar as a junior before running into legal problems, is not expected to enroll at UK, and Calhoun County (S.C.) back David Sims withdrew his commitment to Kentucky in favor of Georgia Tech earlier this month.

Tyler broke on to the scene in 2007 as a starting strong safety for Pike, which finished 14-1 with the only loss coming to Carmel, who was led by UK recruit Morgan Newton. Pike Coach Derek Boyers switched Tyler to quarterback this fall and then moved him to running back midway through the season. Tyler ran for 1,297 yards and 19 touchdowns while passing for 727 yards and seven scores. Pike finished 7-3. Boyers said Tyler was under-recruited because most colleges had him pegged as a free safety.

Boyers said Tyler has been timed at faster than 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash on two different occasions and had 11 touchdowns of 40 yards or longer.

"Our strength and conditioning coach clocked him at 4.32, so we wanted to make sure that was legit and timed him again at 4.34," Boyers said. "He's SEC fast and does electric things with the ball in his hands."

Tyler and Newton were teammates as freshmen at Pike before Newton transferred to Carmel his sophomore year. Boyers said that while the two players remain close, Tyler's decision to attend UK was more about competing in the Southeastern Conference and the chance to crack the rotation as a true freshman.e_SClBCobb SEC All-Freshman

UK quarterback Randall Cobb was named to the coaches' All-SEC Freshman Team on Thursday. Cobb has played quarterback and wide receiver for the Wildcats this season, passing for 542 yards and two touchdowns, rushing for 316 yards and seven TDs and catching 21 passes for 197 yards and two scores.

Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green was named the SEC Freshman of the Year.
