Pre-season recognition continued to accumulate for Patrick Patterson on Monday. But Kentucky's big man saw no reason take a bow.

When asked for his reaction to being named to The Associated Press pre-season All-America team earlier in the day, Patterson said, "I ain't no All-American yet.

"It's an honor. But right now it doesn't mean anything till I go out and prove it."

Patterson became only the third UK player to be named to the wire service's pre-season All-America team. The others were Jamal Mashburn going into the 1992-93 season and Tayshaun Prince going into 2001-02. The AP started the pre-season team in 1986.

Campellsville-Kentucky box score

Southeastern Conference coaches voted Patterson and freshman guard John Wall to pre-season first- and second-teams, respectively, the league announced.

For Patterson, it marked the second straight year he made the SEC's pre-season first team. He joined five others as unanimous selections of the 12 league coaches.

Wall became the first freshman to make one of the pre-season teams since the coaches began voting six years ago.

UK Coach John Calipari saluted Patterson's team-first approach. "Patrick could have been mad because he only had seven shots. ... He was so happy for Perry (Stevenson). What a great kid."

Patterson and Wall gave UK players on the first- and second-teams for the third straight year and in five of the last six years.

That streak began with Chuck Hayes (first) and Kelenna Azubuike (second) in 2004, Rajon Rondo (first) and Patrick Sparks (second) in 2005, Ramel Bradley (first) and Joe Crawford (second) in 2007 and Patrick Patterson (first) and Jodie Meeks (second) in 2008.

Randolph Morris (second) was UK's only representative in 2006.

Other players on this year's first team were Devan Downey of South Carolina, Tasmin Mitchell of Louisiana State, A.J. Ogilvy of Vanderbilt, Michael Washington of Arkansas and Terrico White of Mississippi.

Besides Wall, the coaches' second team included Dominique Archie of South Carolina, Wayne Chism of Tennessee, JaMychal Green of Alabama, DeWayne Reed of Auburn, Trey Thompkins of Georgia, Alex Tyus of Florida and Chris Warren of Ole Miss.

Wall all smiles

During pre-game warmups, UK freshman John Wall looked as if he could handle having to sit out the exhibition against Campbellsville.

Wall appeared on the court as his teammates warmed up. Wearing a gray UK sweatsuit, he had a broad smile on his face as he munched a cookie or a snack chip of some type (hard to tell). He and UK's other freshman point guard, Eric Bledsoe, exchanged smiles and a brief conversation before Bledsoe resumed shooting.

Wall will be eligible to play in the second exhibition against Clarion on Friday. Then he must sit out UK's opener against Morehead State.

Wall must sit out two games — and make good on $787.58 in recruiting expenses paid by his AAU coach, Brian Clifton, who was also a FIBA agent at the time — as punishment for associating with Clifton.

0.911 winning percentage

Going into the game against Campbellsville, UK had won 91.1 percent of its exhibitions. The Cats had a 41-4 record, which included victories in 27 of the last 28 exhibition games.
