The only thing that's close to a guarantee on Thursday night is that Blake Griffin will be the first overall pick. Outside of that, trade possibilities abound, beginning with the second pick. It's all speculation, of course. And there usually are a few surprises in the first round. So after Griffin puts on his Clippers hat and shakes hands with NBA Commissioner David Stern, the fun will begin.
1. Los Angeles Clippers — Blake Griffin, PF, Oklahoma: The Clippers already are loaded with frontcourt players but can't pass on the top overall prospect.
2. Memphis Grizzlies — Hasheem Thabeet, C, Connecticut: Pairing 7-3 Thabeet with 7-1 Marc Gasol gives Grizz big front line.
3. Oklahoma City Thunder — James Harden, SG, Arizona State: Perimeter scorer who will give Kevin Durant and Co. more room to operate.
4. Sacramento Kings — Tyreke Evans, SG, Memphis: Instead of filling a need at point guard, Kings opt for the best player available who can play some point.
5. Minnesota Timberwolves — Ricky Rubio, PG, Spain: Blowing up the roster includes finding someone to get the ball to Al Jefferson.
6. Minnesota Timberwolves — DeMar DeRozan SG, USC: The second part of the new backcourt duo is an athletic finisher.
7. Golden State Warriors — Brandon Jennings, PG, Italy: Monta Ellis can play more shooting guard with the addition of this quick ball handler.
8. New York Knicks — Stephen Curry, PG, Davidson: Another scorer for Mike D'Antoni's high-scoring system.
9. Toronto Raptors — Jrue Holiday, PG, UCLA: He might not contribute immediately but could flourish in a couple of years.
10. Milwaukee Bucks — Jonny Flynn, PG, Syracuse: One of the quickest players available.
11. New Jersey Nets — Terrence Williams, SG, Louisville: Can play small forward and is a good defender and rebounder.
12. Charlotte Bobcats — Gerald Henderson, SG, Duke
13. Indiana Pacers — Jordan Hill, PF, Arizona
14. Phoenix Suns — Earl Clark, SF, Louisville: His ball-handling and versatility make him a good fit.
