UK women release Edelen from scholarship

Junior forward Brittany Edelen has been released from her scholarship, University of Kentucky women's basketball coach Matthew Mitchell announced Friday.

Edelen, from Springfield, Ky., and Washington County High School, played in 30 games in 2008-09 and started six. She averaged 3.2 points and 2.3 rebounds.

Mitchell did not provide a reason for Edelen's departure in the school's news release but made this statement:

"We appreciate Brittany's contributions to the Wildcat program. We wish her the best as she pursues her future both academically and athletically."

Edelen averaged 2.6 points and 1.9 rebounds during her three years at Kentucky.
