Maegan Conwright averaged 13 points and three assists last season for Timberview, which lost in the Class 4A state finals.

Maegan Conwright isn't the highest-ranked high school point guard in the nation, but she's going to be remembered when her four years are up at Kentucky, her high school coach said.

Coach Candi Harvey confirmed that Conwright, who visited UK over the weekend, committed to the Cats.

Harvey, coach at Timberview in Arlington, Texas, knows talent when she sees it. She has been a head coach at the college level and in the WNBA.

Harvey said what sets her 5-foot-9 point guard apart is her competitiveness and toughness.

"She plays hurt," Harvey said of the three-year starter. "She plays tired. There's never any drop-off in her effort."

Conwright, the Texas defensive player of the year, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, averaged 13 points and three assists last season for Timberview, which was rated the No. 11 girls' high school team in the country by ESPN.

"She has a passion for the defensive end, which is hard to find these days," Harvey said of Conwright. "She's somebody's worst nightmare. When you've been defended by Maegan Conwright, you never forget it. She tests every skill that you have or don't have."

Recruiting site Hoopgurlz.com lists Conwright as the 36th-best point guard in the nation, and Harvey expects she'll turn some heads in the Southeastern Conference.

"By the end of her career at Kentucky, everyone will know who she is," Harvey said.

Conwright is the third commitment for UK Coach Matthew Mitchell for next season. The two others are 6-1 guard Sarah Beth Barnette of Lexington Christian and Samantha Drake, a 6-2 forward at Nelson County.

Drake is ranked No. 74 by Hoopgurlz.
