Third baby for tiny Kentucky mother

  • Stacey Herald, of Dry Ridge, is having her third baby, according to The Mirror of London, England. The Herald-Leader reported on Stacey Herald in 2008 when the 28 1/2 inch tall woman was pregnant with her second child. When her second baby was born, the Guiness Book of World Records was investigating if she was the world's smallest mother.

  • Kentucky had some good grades and some bad in a national report on schools by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Center for American Progress, and Frederick M. Hess of the American Enterprise Institute. The state received a failing grade in the state's ability to remove ineffective teachers. Kentucky received its highest grade (B) in three areas: Data;  Pipeline to Postsecondary;  and Technology. From the report: "Sixty-four percent of principals say that teacher unions or associations are a barrier to the removal of ineffective teachers, and 86% of principals report that tenure is a barrier to the removal of poor-performing teachers."
  • Brian R. Mefford, the chief executive officer of Connected Nation and former director of ConnectKentucky, is speaking to a group of information technology representatives in Malaysia, according to the Malaysia Star. The conference theme "Innovation Economy: Paving the Path to Prosperity," is intended to guide the Malaysian information economy.
