- The Kentucky Geological Survey has announced its new publication, the Geologic Map of Kentucky, is now available. The map compiles more than 700 digital maps to make up the full geologic map of the state. It can be downloaded from the KGS Web site or purchased in paper form. The colorful 1:350,000-scale map includes all major geologic formations of the state, along with major surface faults, counties, county seats, streams, and rivers.
- Southwestern High School's Raptor Rehabilitation facility in Pulaski County has a new resident: a peregrine falcon. The Commonwealth Journal reports on the latest arrival to the Raptor Rehabilitation facility. Approximately 30 students will feed and tend to the female for a few weeks until she's ready to begin caring for herself again.
- Floyd County has had 20 thefts of copper telephone wire in the last several weeks, according to the Floyd County Times. AT&T is currently working with law enforcement and scrap metal dealers in Prestonsburg and throughout the county.
- Great idea for a Web site: My Parents Were Awesome. From the blog operator Eliot Glazer to Utne: "To see my own parents and grandparents look so effortlessly cool (and even glamorous) while my generation tries so hard to look unintentionally fashionable (not that there's anything wrong with that, of course) is pretty entertaining."
