A single-engine aircraft carrying a pilot and one passenger went off the runway at the Capital City Airport in Frankfort Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
No one was injured.
The plane, a Sportstar aircraft, went about 500 feet into a grassy field about noon Wednesday, said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Mark Brown, who was at the scene.
The plane was attempting to land when it ran off the runway, Brown said.
Brown said he didn't know why the plane left the runway.
He said the plane is still intact, and the pilot and passenger walked away unharmed.
“This is a demonstration of how our agencies can work together to respond to potentially tragic situations,” Brown said.
Federal Aviation Administration officials were en route to the airport Wednesday afternoon from Louisville.
The National Transportation Safety Board also will investigate, Brown said.
The Capital City Airport is on Airport Road within Frankfort city limits.
The airport has a 5,900-foot single runway, according to the airport's Web site.
