A woman was killed and another was hospitalized after a single-car crash in Elliott County on Thursday night.
Kentucky State Police at Morehead said the wreck occurred about 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Ky. 7 and Ky. 557, a few miles northeast of Sandy Hook.
Troopers said a 1994 Ford driven by Charletta Monfort, 74, of Sandy Hook, was traveling south on Ky. 7 when it ran off the road, hit an embankment and came to rest against a guardrail. Monfort, who was not wearing a seat belt, was flown to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., where she was pronounced dead, police said.
A passenger, Norma Monfort, 70, also of Sandy Hook was transported to St. Mary's in Huntington with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
The crash is under investigation.
