Three people died early Thursday in two separate crashes in Boyd County.
The first likely occurred sometime between 4:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Ky. 5 near the intersection with Meadowbrook Lane, said Mark Hammond, Boyd County deputy coroner.
Never miss a local story.
Driver Jason Nichols, 28, and passenger Brandi Blevins, 29, both of Greenup County, were killed when their vehicle left the road at a curve and went into a 15-foot culvert, Hammond said. The exact time of the crash is not known. A passerby noticed the vehicle around 7 a.m., Hammond said.
Nichols was not wearing a seat belt, but Blevins was, Hammond said. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor, he said.
The second occurred about 5:45 a.m. in Ashland when a red Jeep struck a floodwall on 29th Street, according to Ashland police. The driver, Christopher Owen Sidell, 48, of Ashland died at the scene. It is not known if he was wearing a seatbelt or if drugs and alcohol contributed to the crash.
