NICHOLASVILLE — Jessamine County Public Schools reported its first case of whooping cough, a highly contagious disease that has shown up in several other Kentucky school districts.
The case was confirmed Tuesday in a student at Nicholasville Elementary School, said Superintendent Lu Young. The school has 600 students.
The Jessamine County Health Department recommends that parents make an appointment with their child's health care provider or the health department to discuss the need for antibiotic treatment and to review the child's immunization records.
Other whooping cough outbreaks have been reported in Franklin County and in counties around Elizabethtown.
