The flu has arrived in Kentucky. The state Department of Health said Friday that it had its first case of culture-confirmed influenza. The case is in Adair County.
Public Health Commissioner William Hacker advised Kentuckians to get a flu shot to protect themselves against the virus.
"You should also follow the advice your mother gave you," Hacker said. "Wash your hands frequently, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and stay home when you're sick."
Kentucky's flu season generally begins in October and ends in May. It peaks between January and March.
