HARRODSBURG — A Frankfort woman died Tuesday morning after a head-on collision on the U.S. 127 bypass, Mercer County Coroner David "Sonny" Ransdell said.
Jennie F. Davenport, 53, was pronounced dead at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg, Ransdell said.
Witnesses told police that Davenport's vehicle turned off U.S. 127 into the wrong lanes of the bypass, so that it was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. One motorist tried to warn traffic by flashing headlights, police said in a release.
Davenport's vehicle collided head-on with a northbound vehicle driven by James T. Meredith, also of Harrodsburg. Police said Meredith tried to avoid the collision.
