The Central Kentucky Blood Center is calling on Kentuckians to donate blood. The center less than two days of shipable red blood cells on hand; it normally keeps a three-day supply.
To increase donations, the Beaumont Centre Blood Center will be open Sunday before the Super Bowl.
The center's supply has been low since December, when it collected 800 fewer pints than normal, said spokesman Jim Tinker. The weather this week added to the problem: 22 blood drives were canceled.
The center, which supplies 67 medical centers and hospitals in 62 counties, has sent out more blood than its collected over the past week, Tinker said.
To donate blood, call 1-800-775-2522 to make an appointment or go to www.kybloodcenter.org. Appointments are not necessary.
