Matthew Leveridge, commonwealth's attorney for Russell and Wayne Counties, has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container, according to Pulaski Circuit Court records.
He was fined $200.
A Somerset police officer saw him drinking alcohol at a stoplight on U.S. 27 Saturday night and stopped him. Leveridge admitted that he had been drinking.
Leveridge was booked into the Pulaski County Detention Center at 12:48 a.m. Sunday and released about three hours later, a jail employee said.
"I deeply regret that this incident occurred," Leveridge said in a statement Monday.
"I made a mistake for which I am truly sorry. This has been a very humbling experience. I have accepted the consequences of my actions and will work to move forward and put this behind me."
