A body wrapped in a tarp was found at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday in rural Woodford County, police said.
The site is near Lillard Ferry Road, near the Kentucky River, about 6 miles south of Versailles, police said.
Police did not identify the victim. Versailles Assistant Police Chief Mike Murray said an autopsy will be performed Friday morning at the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort.
Murray said he was not sure who found the body.
Never miss a local story.
Murray could not say how long the body had been at the remote site near the Kentucky River.
Versailles police and the Woodford County sheriff's office are investigating.
