NICHOLASVILLE — A second Jessamine County jail employee has been arrested on a charge of drug trafficking, Nicholasville police said Thursday.
Dana Denise Whitlock, a deputy jailer and state-registered nurse aide at the detention center, was arrested Wednesday night, charged with trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school. She was taken to the Fayette County jail.
Part of Whitlock's job was to dispense medicine to inmates, police said in a news release. Police said the investigation revealed that she was involved with others in selling and/or illegally distributing some of those medicines.
Whitlock's arrest followed the arrest of another jail employee, Capt. Mike Rigney, on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance. Rigney, a 15-year veteran of the Jessamine County jail, was charged Wednesday and taken to the Fayette County jail.

Both arrests were made as part of an undercover investigation that began in October 2008 in response to numerous complaints regarding the illegal transfer of drugs at the jail, police said.
The complaints came from jail employees, former inmates and residents, police said.
Additional arrests and charges are anticipated, police said.
