NICHOLASVILLE — The widening of U.S. 68 in Jessamine County is about 50 percent completed, the state Transportation Cabinet said Wednesday.
Six miles of highway, a heavily traveled commuter route for Lexington, will be widened from two lanes to four lanes upon completion. The Allen Co. of Winchester is the prime contractor.
The cabinet said construction work is expected to have minimal effect on traffic and those attending the annual Ichthus music festival, to be held June 10-13 in Wilmore.
A 45 mph speed limit is in effect in the work zone. The cabinet asks motorists to be aware of the work zone and to drive safely when going through that area.

It is anticipated that the widening of U.S. 68 in Jessamine County will be finished in the summer of 2010.
