An autopsy has confirmed that an Ethiopian exchange student drowned in a pool at his host home in Somerset, Pulaski County Coroner Richard New said.
Fasika Hayelom Sibehatu, 18, was found dead early Tuesday. An autopsy conducted Wednesday showed the teen's death was consistent with drowning, and the death will be ruled an accident, New said.
New said investigators have learned Sibehatu could not swim. The pool where he died is shallow on one end but drops off sharply to the deep end, New said.
Sibehatu had not been in the pool earlier because it had been closed. It's possible he went wading and slipped into water over his head because he didn't realize the pool sloped quickly, New said.
Sibehatu had been a junior at Somerset Christian School this year.
