Johnny Ray Coffey, 48, of Moravian Falls, N.C., died Tuesday after the car he was driving struck a van on an Eastern Kentucky road, Kentucky State Police said.
Coffey was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier north on Ky. 119 when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a van, state police said. Coffey was trapped in the vehicle when the Harlan County Rescue Squad arrived.
Coffey died at the scene of the wreck, which occurred about 5:20 a.m. in the Baxter community of Harlan County.
Billy Banks, 36, of Cumberland, was driving the van. He was taken to Harlan Appalachian Regional Healthcare Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
