The Wolfe County fiscal court needs better oversight of the fuel cards it provides the county jailer, state auditors said.
In an audit released Thursday of the county's 2008 finances, invoices dated July through October, totaling $4,069, lacked documentation of the jailer's car's mileage.
County Judge-Executive Raymond Hurst said in the report by state Auditor of Public Accounts Crit Luallen that the "jailer refuses to cooperate. He has refused to log his miles for last 18 months — since problem started."
The audit also found that the fiscal court failed to approve cash transfers to the county's jail fund totaling $40,700. Hurst said the problem would be corrected.
