By the time many downtown workers are heading home Tuesday and Thursday, the vendors at Lexington Farmers Market on nearby Maxwell Street have returned to the farm.
But now consumers have an opportunity to shop after work at a new market location just beyond New Circle Road, at The Mall at Lexington Green.
Farmers will set up from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays under the awning and in the parking lot in front of Whole Foods.
Market manager Jeff Dabbelt said he expects the market will start with six to 12 vendors, then grow.
"We're hitting the season just right," he said, adding that with plenty of rain the growing season is off to a good start with a variety of produce. The lineup for the Wednesday afternoon market also will include cheeses, meats and ice cream.
What's unique about this market is that it's for Kentucky products only, Dabbelt said.
The owners of Lexington Green, Langley Properties, invited the market to set up at the location, which is a desirable spot for catching the outgoing traffic from downtown, Dabbelt said.
