An ex-emergency management director in Garrard County was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison for reckless homicide, assault and DUI.
On April 29, 2007, Dwayne Nave crossed the center line and collided with a pickup on U.S. 27 near Bryantsville. The pickup driver, Willard Quinn, 43, of Parksville was killed, and a passenger, Kevin Reed of Stanford, was seriously injured.
Nave was driving an official vehicle at the time. Nave's blood-alcohol content was 0.12 when it was taken at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville nearly two hours after the crash. The state considers a person to be impaired at a blood-alcohol level of 0.08.
Nave resigned as emergency management director in June 2007.
Last year, Garrard County's insurance company paid $2.1 million to Quinn's estate.
An employee in prosecuting attorney Tom Lockridge's office said Nave was incarcerated immediately following his sentencing.
