Two bills that will go to the U.S. Senate floor for consideration contain nearly $10 million in funding for two Central Kentucky projects, U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell announced Tuesday.
The bills — the military construction and veterans' affairs bill and the agriculture appropriations bill — were approved Tuesday by a Senate committee.
The military bill includes an additional $5 million for the demilitarization of chemical weapons at Blue Grass Army Depot in Madison County, according to a news release from McConnell's office.
The agriculture bill includes $4.9 million for agriculture projects at the University of Kentucky. Those projects include UK's Advanced Genetics Technology Center, Health Education Extension Leadership Program and Precision Agriculture Research Unit, according to the release.
