Lexington firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire in an unoccupied apartment Sunday afternoon, a fire official said.
The fire was contained to the kitchen of a second-floor apartment in a building at 2395 Chauvin Drive, off Alumni Drive. It started about 6 p.m., Battalion Chief Brent Frizzell said.
The residents were not home, and no one was injured.
Frizzell said the cause has not been determined.

Several people watched as firefighters worked Sunday afternoon. Frizzell said the fire department did not have to evacuate any of the apartments in the building because none of the residents were home.
