NICHOLASVILLE — A Jessamine County man was injured Monday when a pickup truck he was driving struck a bridge abutment and caught fire, police said.
Jerry Johns, 46, was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, said Allen Peel, chief deputy of the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Peel said. Johns was listed in serious condition, a UK spokesperson said.
At noon Monday, Johns was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup on Ky. 39 (Sulphur Well Road) when it went out of control and hit Black Bridge, Peel said. The truck burst into flames, but Johns was able to get out.
The accident happened about 5 miles south of Nicholasville.
