A 9-year-old boy was removed by police from Williamsburg Independent School last week after he bit and hit a fourth-grade teacher.
Williamsburg Independent Superintendent Dennis Byrd said the boy "just had a meltdown" after the teacher told him to do something on Aug. 13, the third day of classes. Williamsburg police were called to the school, and The News Journal newspaper reported that the boy was charged with a misdemeanor assault.
The teacher, Betty Redden, was bitten on the arm, but she returned to school the next day, Byrd said.
The boy was released to the custody of a parent.
