A broken sewer main in Lexington's Hamburg area that leaked for more than five days was repaired Sunday, but work continues on restoring the area.
One contractor is removing contaminated soil and sewage from the area near Star Shoot Parkway and Flying Ebony Drive. The soil is going to a landfill; the sewage to a treatment plant, said Mark York, a spokesman for the city's Division of Water Quality. That work is expected to be completed Friday, he said.
A second contractor is repairing damage done to a hillside where the leak happened, and putting sediment controls on a portion of creek that was used to move leaking sewage to another sewer line. That work, which will include grading and putting down grass seed and straw, should be completed next Friday, he said.
