A broken cross arm on a utility pole near Winchester Road and Strader Drive in Lexington led to a power outage in parts of Fayette and Clark counties just before 9 p.m. Wednesday, Kentucky Utilities Co. spokesman Cliff Feltham said.
When the cross arm broke, an electrical transmission line came down and hit a distribution line beneath it. Feltham said KU did not know how the cross arm broke.
Power went out for 4,915 KU customers along Winchester Road, beginning near Loudon Avenue and extending into the city of Winchester. Feltham said 1,825 customers in Fayette County and a little more than 3,000 customers in Winchester were affected.
A little more than a half-hour after the outage, power had been restored to the Clark County customers. Shortly before 11 p.m., all but 280 of the Fayette County customers had power.
Never miss a local story.
Feltham said it might be 1 a.m. Thursday or later before power would be restored to the remaining customers, who are in the area of the broken cross arm.
