Linda Gorton, one of three at-large members on Urban County Council, filed for re-election on Monday.
With 11 years of experience, Gorton, 61, is the longest-serving member on council. She served four two-year terms representing the 4th District and is in her first four-year term as an at-large representative. She chairs the planning committee and serves on the budget and finance and the water resources oversight committees.
The city has several pressing issues to consider over the next four years, Gorton said, not the least of which is "continuing budget challenges."
"I think my experience will help me consider all of Fayette County in finding the best solutions," she added.
A registered nurse, Gorton is married to Major General (Ret.) Charles Gorton, US Army Reserve. They have two grown children. Daughter Abby is a retirement home executive in Texas; son Clay is in Afghanistan with the Army reserve.
