Williamsburg police on Tuesday found the body of a Mount Vernon man in the back seat of a car that had been driven back to Kentucky from a Florida pain clinic, Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley said.
The body of Jimmy York, 45, was brought to the Williamsburg police station by a woman who lives in the Mount Vernon area. Another woman from Rockcastle County was also in the car, the coroner said.
York died on Interstate 75 somewhere in Tennessee while coming home to Kentucky, Croley said. The women were trying to reach a Williamsburg medical clinic using the vehicle's global positioning system, but they found themselves at the police station instead at about 11:30 a.m., the coroner said.
York had Xanax, a drug used to treat anxiety, and the painkiller oxycodone in his possession. The drugs were prescribed to him, Croley said.
Never miss a local story.
An autopsy and toxicology tests are being done to determine the cause of death, Croley said.
