A Montgomery County has been charged with setting a fire that destroyed the last remaining fire tower in the Daniel Boone National Forest in December 2008.
Roger Davis, 51, was arrested Jan. 4 on a charge of third-degree arson. He also charged was with having unpaid fines. He is being held in Montgomery County jail on a $2,000 cash bond on the unpaid fines and an unsecured bond on the arson charge.
The Tater Knob fire tower was damaged so badly by the fire that it had to be closed. The tower was built 74 years ago and had been listed on the National Historic Lookout Register.
