Nearly all roads in Johnson County are impassable because of freezing rain Tuesday morning. Drivers were surprised by the weather, and several pileup crashes have occurred, a state Highway Department official said.
"This is an unusual event; so far none of the counties around us are having the same problems, but roads are iced over here in Johnson County. People need to stay off them right now, seriously," said Keith Hill of the state Highway Department office in Paintsville. Crews were working to clear roads and protect crashed vehicles with their emergency vehicles, Hill said.
