HAZARD — A former state representative was arrested on an assault charge in Hazard on Thursday.
Scott Alexander, 40, turned himself in at the Perry County jail, where police served a warrant charging him with fourth-degree assault, said Joe Engle, deputy Hazard police chief. He was released from the jail.
Wesley Fields swore out a complaint against Alexander this week. Fields alleged that on Feb. 5 Alexander punched him in the head, according to the complaint.
Engle said the incident involved Fields and Alexander's wife, Terri.

She filed a domestic violence petition against Scott Alexander recently, according to a computer entry at the Perry County circuit clerk's office. The file on that case was not available Friday, a deputy clerk said.
Alexander declined comment.
Alexander, a Democrat, served in the state House from 1997 to 2000. He lost a special election in 2008 for the state Senate seat that includes Perry County, then returned to the House for part of that year.
