A 16-year-old has been charged in Spencer County with abusing a 3-year-old while baby-sitting after state police received a complaint from the victim's family Tuesday.
The family filed the complaint after they returned to their home and found the 3-year-old with multiple injuries that were consistent with child abuse, according to a release from state police.
The family took the child to Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville, and he was transferred to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville with serious injuries, state police spokesman Ronald Turley said.
The 16-year-old is charged with three counts of first-degree sodomy, three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, and fourth-degree assault. Turley did not say whether the teen was male or female.
"These charges are pretty serious," Turley said. "We lodged the juvenile in a juvenile facility. That kind of gives you an idea of how bad it is."
State police are investigating. The names of those involved are not being released because of their ages.
