Lexington Division of Fire is giving away carbon monoxide detectors Friday at Fire Station No. 9 on Richmond Road.
Information about carbon monoxide and instructions for using the detectors will be distributed during the giveaway, which is done in cooperation with Safe Kids Fayette County Coalition. Lexington fire Lt. Jay Webb said 145 free detectors will be distributed.
"We will give a brief presentation about why we are giving them away and also explain how to properly install the detector and what it can and cannot do," Webb said.
The grant for the detectors was provided by Safe Kids, a community-based childhood injury-prevention program led by Kentucky Children's Hospital.

The giveaway is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Additional parking is available in the Kentucky American Water parking lot next to the fire station.
