Urban County Council voted 12-3 at its meeting Thursday night to fire Citizens' Advocate Joan Beck.
Vice Mayor Jim Gray declined to comment on reasons for letting Beck go.
Councilwoman-at-large Linda Gorton, 1st District Councilwoman Andrea James and 11th District councilwoman Peggy Henson voted against the firing.
The Citizens' Advocate office was established to investigate citizen complaints and charges of irregularities against employees in city government. Council appointed Beck seven years ago. According to a Lexington government database provided to the Herald-Leader, she made $75,360 a year.
