A 3-year-old girl from Missouri died early Friday in a wreck on Interstate 64 in Franklin County, Kentucky State Police said.
The girl, Andrea Weatherspoon, was a passenger in a 2009 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Catherine Stults, 49, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., investigators said. Deputy coroner Joel Whisman said he has not determined a cause a death.
The right lane of I-64 had been closed because of an accident involving alcohol, so traffic was congested, according to a police report. For unknown reasons, the Volvo collided with a tractor-trailer driven by Williams, 45, of McLeansboro, Ill., about 12:50 a.m. at mile marker 53 of eastbound I-64, police said.
Whisman said Stults was Andrea's grandmother. He said her grandfather also was in the truck. Catherine Stults and her husband, Christopher Stults, were listed in good condition at Frankfort Regional Medical Center Friday afternoon. Williams' condition was unavailable.
