A head-on crash in Jessamine County on Wednesday morning killed a Nicholasville woman and injured her 7-year-old daughter, authorities said.
Valerie Adkins, 35, was taking her daughter to school around 8 a.m. when the accident occurred on Chrisman Mill Road, Major Allen Peel of the Jessamine County Sheriff's Department said. Adkins died in the collision; her daughter was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital and was released later in the day.
Police said Adkins was traveling north when her 1989 GMC pickup truck hit a trailer being towed by another pickup truck. Adkins then lost control of her vehicle and crossed into the southbound lane, where she was hit head-on by a pickup truck driven by Brenda Howe of Wilmore.
Neither Howe nor Robert Hall Jr., who was towing the trailer, was injured. Peel said drugs and alcohol are not currently thought to be factors in the crash.

Both lanes of Chrisman Mill Road were closed for several hours while accident reconstruction officers investigated, Peel said.
