RICHMOND — A silo that stores coal-ash was damaged in a fire Thursday morning on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University.
No one was injured, said Corey Lewis, spokesman for Richmond Fire Department.
The fire was reported shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday. The silo stored ash that is a by-product from coal that is burned to fire boilers that heat the campus, Lewis said. Some electronic parts and mechanical parts and electronic components were damaged in the fire, Lewis said.
The fire did not affect the campus because the boilers are only used in the winter.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
