Visitors to Lexington now have new signs to help guide their way to city landmarks, according to a press release from the city government. The signs, featuring a blue horse, give directions to such places as Blue Grass Airport, the University of Kentucky, the Kentucky Horse Park, Keeneland Race Course and several historic homes.
Signs are being installed first on Versailles Road and Newtown Pike because of increased traffic on the route to the Kentucky Horse Park for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. The release said contractors anticipate 12 signs will be visible in the area by Friday night.
A total of 98 signs, which cost $732,012.74 to create and install, according to the release, will be erected around the city within the next three months. The signs caused a stir in September when it was discovered that they would not be in place before the Games as planned.
