The red-carpet premiere of Secretariat will close Lexington's Main and surrounding streets Sunday night.
The film about the 1973 Triple Crown winner and his owner, Penny Chenery. is scheduled to open nationwide Oct. 8, but Lexington gets an early look Sunday night at The Kentucky Theatre. The event will be attended by the film's star, Diane Lane, who plays Chenery, and other film and Thoroughbred racing celebrities.
The following streets will be closed part of the night for the screening.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the left lane and the middle lane of East Main Street between Rose Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard will be closed. From 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., all lanes of Main Street between Rose Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard will be shut down.
Also closed during that period will be Quality Street, between Water and East Main streets; Esplanade at East Main Street; and Deweese Street at East Main Street.
