A fire on Saturday killed two people and destroyed a house in downtown Morehead.
The fire was reported at around 9 a.m. at a two-story, wood-frame house on Sun Street that had been converted into three apartments, Morehead Fire Chief Jeff Anderson said.
The occupant of one unit escaped, Anderson said. But a woman whom firefighters pulled from an upstairs apartment later died from related injuries at the hospital, and a man's body was found in a ground-floor unit after the blaze was extinguished.
Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt said the victims were Vada Knipp, 49, and Kristopher Harvey, 40. The causes of death will be determined by autopsies at the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort.
Never miss a local story.
An investigation into the fire's cause continues, Anderson said.
